Campus Tour

Our campus is named for Stella Boyle-Smith (1893-1994). "She was a local philanthropist whose passions included music and education," said Mike Mayton, trustee of the Stella-Boyle Smith Trust. She gave extensively throughout her lifetime and through her trust to music and medical fields. She was an accomplished pianist and helped form the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Our students affectionately call her Stella. She is greeted each morning by the students as they walk through the door. Stella celebrates holidays and special occasions with our students throughout the year. Stella dresses as a clown for the circus, wears a costume on Halloween, a cap and gown for graduation, and pearls for the prom.

We also celebrate the day of her birth each year! Our students have learned of Stella's love of music, art, and children. Her favorite flower was a rose. Stella Boyle-Smith is an integral part of the fun and festivities at ACCESS.

ACCESS Group, Inc. is has three main branches including Schools (preschool through high school), Therapy, and Evaluation and Resource Center. ACCESS is located on Breckenridge Drive and has a spacious campus of 36,000 square feet of building space, three developmentally appropriate playgrounds, and fabulous school gardens.

ACCESS began in 1995 with one preschool classroom of 8 pre-k children. Since that time, the organization has grown to include preschool classrooms for 6 weeks through 5 years. The curriculum that was written by the founders is based on children's literature. The classrooms have 10 - 12 students per class with a master's degreed teacher and an assistant teacher. Our students enjoy daily art, music and movement.

ACCESS Academy open in 1998 with two classrooms. The focus of the school-aged program is building a firm foundation of reading and writing. We use The Association Method as the core method of teaching reading, comprehension and written expression.

ACCESS offers three developmentally appropriate playgrounds. The Brown Foundation of Houston Outdoor Recreation Areas include:

•Infant and Toddler
•Early Childhood
•School-aged

Movement is an important part of the day for students. It is the natural place to work on social skills and play with young children. Movement and exercise is important because it enhances cognitive development.

ACCESS Gardens is a great place to hang out and a beautiful setting. But more than that...it is an outdoor classroom. Students learn about science and nature in this setting. It also provides an outdoor space for learning and enjoying reading and writing. Weekly gardening lessons focus on specific gardening principals.
